elcome to First Cut Books.

First Cut Books opened in 2003 as an independent, online bookstore, comprised entirely of recommended reading. Based in Los Angeles, I wrapped books in kraft paper, tied them with twine, and sent them off to readers for three years.  I loved being your indie web-alternative, and enjoyed the tremendous support of many loyal customers. In 2005, I realized I was so overwhelmed with fulfilling orders that I had little time to read or write reviews, and in August I closed up shop and moved out to the country in central New York. The business that grew out of a labor of love is now restricted to precisely those labors I love: reading and writing.

This website invites you to discover both old and new books, hand-picked and reviewed. I only recommend books I really, truly, desperately love. Fiercely opinionated, picky, and thrilled beyond all else by good writing, I expect the same from my readers.
